The shoe designer of choice for Carrie Bradshaw and her Sex and the City pals, Manolo Blahnik is saying goodbye to platform shoes. At the launch of his latest spring/summer 2010 collection at Soho House this week, Manolo said that he’s glad to have no more platforms. This time he switched to elegant spike-heeled stilettos featuring a fine, ‘zero’ sole, and pretty flat sandals.

Grouped into several categories his new range unites elements like ‘Sculpture’, using reference points such as Guggenheim for its semicircles and neutral shades, and ‘Equestrian’, taking inspiration from straps and leather of Rubens’ horse and rider paintings.

‘Spectacle’ gives free harness to Blahnik’s sense of wit and fun and draws on theater and the Big Top. The sandal in purple and white-checked satin and crepe-de-chime, has a hint of gladiatress, with cut-outs and a peep-toe. Another, peep-toe, sling-back ankle-boot, is in a pretty, blue rose, Liberty print; while a black-and-white canvas, ‘clown spot’ flat, piped in red, is tied at ankle with a wide, leather bow.
‘Applique’ embraces range of heels and flats, decorated with re-vetted, leather flowers. In the meantime, Blahnik is working on second edition of his drawings which will be published next year.
