The highly anticipated American Music Awards popularly known as AMAs went off in downtown Los Angeles at the Nokia Theater. This time it was like a nice mixture of old and new, with Divas like Whitney Houston, Mary J, Janet Jackson, Rihanna and Shakira giving their performances. AMA gave opportunity to today’s top pop acts to show off themselves on the red carpet and also acknowledged them for their outstanding contributions to music.

Nicole Kidman made a royal entry with her hubby Keith Urban,wowing on the red carpet a long, tiered, asymmetrical Balenciaga gown. Rihanna was also among the best dressed ones. In a silver Talbot Runhof gathered dress, Selena Gomez surprised everybody. Rihanna flaunted a tattoo down the front of her neck that read Rated R, the name of her new album.

Highlights of the awards were Performances by Lady Gaga and Adam Lambert. Starting off by singing hit “Bad Romance”, she moved to “Speechless” by using her microphone stand and busting a glass box with a piano inside. Dressed up in a flesh-colored bodysuit wrapped with white piping Lady Gaga gave impressions of ribs.

Taylor Swift and Michael Jackson were the biggest winners of the evening. Jackson got recognized in four categories including Favorite Male Artist in the pop/rock and soul/R&B categories. Taylor picked up five awards, including Artist of the Year, Favorite Female Artist in the pop/rock and country categories, and Favorite Adult-Contemporary Artist as well.
