Giant chandeliers, furniture, paintings, a billiard table and even pots and pans went on show on Tuesday at Christie’s Auction offerings in Paris in second and more homely installment of the Yves Saint Laurent-Pierre Bergé “sale of the century”.

The first half of this sale, in February, included some of the late fashion designer’s most prized art, furniture and antiques. But the latest sale will display items largely from the private country hideaway on the Normandy coast that Saint Laurent shared with his partner, Mr Bergé.

Over all, 1,185 items will go under the hammer at this giant four-day auction starting Nov 17 that winds up on Nov 20 with sale of the late fashion designer’s last Mercedes-Benz automobile and Hermes luggage.

The record-smashing 700-item February sale earned €342.5 million (£307 million), making Saint Laurent highest-earning dead celebrity of the year (according to Forbes magazine). But next week’s auction is expected to ring up a three or four million euros, said deputy president of Christie’s France, Francois de Ricqles. Here are some photos of the items to be auctioned.

Mr Pierre Bergé, an arts patron, the famous business tycoon and Saint Laurent’s business partner, opted to sell the collection accumulated over a lifetime after YSL’s death from cancer in June last year aged 71. Last month, he said he would offer the entire proceeds from this November auction to fight Aids, along with some of the proceeds from the February auction.
