DAKS, the quintessential, English, town-and-country, heritage brand, stepped into new territory at London Fashion Week with fall 2010 collection by creative director, Filippo Scuffi. Scuffi’s years in design studios of top American brands such as Michael Kors, Donna Karan, and Ralph Lauren, was evident in his sure hand with contemporary sportswear with an urban edge.
Daks Autumn/Winter collection draws its inspiration from world of aviation, and particularly individuals and organisations that have pioneered brand’s development. Collection reflected rich history of RAF, which is famed not only for development of modern aviation, but also for high standard in dress and presentation.

A somber palette of gray and black overtake this collection, blending a touch of refinement with strength of modest militaristic undertaking. The collection shapes up nicely with tight run of outerwear and suiting separates. A classic cashmere sweater in camel color and gentle, A-line knee-skirt was immediately updated with floor-length dresses and cardigans. Grey cable-stitchgold lace-up shoes and socks was an accessory theme throughout the show.

The Daks house check was seen in tailored city-shorts, cropped trousers, and neat, slim-line coats, worn with matching ‘deerstalker’ hats, just like the famous detective (fictional character) Sherlock Holmes. Dark navy, pinstripe coats and suits also featured ‘Sherlock’ solution.
Overall mood for color was tonal and sophisticated with palette of earthy tones, strong winter greys, luxuriant blacks, navy, charcoal, and utilitarian blue. Key pieces in collection include a cashmere trench, herringbone blouson with fur collar, slim fit double-breasted suit, wool great coat in oversized gun club check, and long cable knit cardigan.
