London based, the Greek-Austrian designer – Marios Schwab, revisited his childhood and his Tyrolean past at London Fashion Week. He presented a collection which translated folklore in a totally contemporary and almost futuristic manner. As a new creative director of luxe brand Halston, it was interesting to see Halston’s influence in his eponymous work.

For this collection he decided to go far simpler than in recent seasons that were full of layers, crystals and quirky 3-D prints. He presented a very concise and well-edited collection that showcased his intelligent skill of tailoring.

Sharp shoulders, simple white shirts and curved bolero jackets all held the opening section. And then collection moved towards corsetry to really emphasize the waist, completed with hook detailing that was as much adornment as it was practical.

Schwab explored the concept of dirndl, corset-laced bodice and traditional embroideries associated with pretty young maidens in The Alps. He used Loden wool, silk charmeuse, silk taffetas and teddy-bear fabrics, to create a thoroughly modern silhouette that shifted folkloric into a new, desirable dimension.

Schwab played well with necklines. The sensual outline and thinking behind entire collection was beautifully emphasized with leather, pendant chokers, designed by Beana Makri. They were highly inspired by restraints used in The Story of O, and tracery of stones detailing low-cut necklines.

Two red carpet gowns in cream-parchment taffeta, which followed “dirndl line” in silhouette, and were embellished with crystals. This spectacular Marios Schwab Fall 2010 collection was ended with a gown featuring a half-ball gown-skirt over taffeta shorts, or we can say “taffeta-hosen”.

Since images of Sarah Jessica Parker donning Halston surfaced last year, the Internet has been buzzing of a probable partnership between the Sex And The City starlet and 70’s iconic brand.

Rumors are getting loud that Sarah is going to play a much bigger role at the revived design house, Halston. Speculations have centered around an ambassador-type role and the titles being bantered about include Creative Director and Design Director.

It would be quite interesting to see whether Sarah would have a flourishing career as a Creative Designer or not. Recently many designer houses like Ungaro and Polaroid, have signed up celebrities Lindsay Lohan and Lady Gaga respectively as their creative designers. The benefits of making a renowned celebrity as a part of a fashion house are clear as a crystal. Celebrities bring in – a dedicated audience, ability to drum up media coverage and contacts. But sometimes they can also damage a brand’s integrity, as seen in the case of Lohan.

Parker has stolen fashion spotlights since the beginning of the Sex and the City series — thanks to her own Bitten clothing line, successful fragrance collection and not to miss, the quirky stylings of Patricia Field.

Just wearing a white Halston dress in upcoming Sex and the City movie sequel has garnered tons of press for them. In fact, another rumor taking shape is that, we are going to see quite a lot of vintage Halston in her upcoming movie. Well Done Halston!! What a smart move!!
