Betty Jackson, a British fashion designer based in London, was born on 24 June 1949 and grew up in Bacup, Lancashire. In 2007, her achievement within British fashion was honored with a CBE. She’s also known for designing outrageous costumes of Eddy and Patsy on 1990s hit television comedy show “Absolutely Fabulous”.
Jackson joined Wendy Dagworthy as her design assistant, in 1973. She moved to further positions at Quorum, and Coopers, before setting up her own design company. In 1986, she introduced “Betty Jackson for Men” collection, and opened her flagship shop in Brompton Road, London, in 1991. In 2000, she launched her “Autograph” collection for Marks & Spencer and now does Betty Jackson Black for Debenhams.
As a member of an advisory panel to British Fashion Council’s Model Health Inquiry, Jackson has been involved in so-called ’size zero’ debate, in 2006. In 2008, Jackson was asked by Lord Chief Justice, Nicholas Phillips, for help with modernizing the gowns of the civil judiciary.
She has always believed that clothes should perform for a wearer in any given situation, and loves the idea that any outfit you choose at the beginning of the day, should take you effortlessly through to the evening, simply by changing your accessories.
