Calvin Klein, house famed for its minimalist aesthetic, replaced prints with minimalist volume gowns. This time Francisco Costa focused on trends and came up with promising spring 2011 trends.

Long-sleeved dresses with a few strategic pleats, statement pants, and dropped waists looked every inch perfect for fashion loving women. Calvin Klein Spring 2011 women’s collection offered sexy, smart and ready to wear women’s dresses.

Show opened with model clad in back-wrap silk halter dress. Then came a slew of Calvin Klein Spring 2011 dresses and coats in variety of shapes and lengths including a long slip, spanking white dress in the shape of an oversize T-shirt with big pocket on the side.

Looks like a long washed-silk halter, silk crepe skirt, a silk shift with pleats across the front, balsam cotton racer-back dresses, long-sleeve coat dress, ankle-length dress, collarless jacket tied over matching pants, sleeveless T-shirt were head turning. There were also some color splash on runway with models donning a deep blue short-sleeve shirtdress and many more. Some of the dresses like a balsam cotton canvas tunic teamed with slim cropped pants looked apt for working women owing to minimalism and sophistication evoking out of it. It was a star studded show with beautiful Katie Holmes, Julianne Moore, Kerry Washington, Isabel Lucas, and Elisa Sednaoui sitting in front row.

Calvin Klein Collection was very well put together. Francisco Costa necessarily seeks to bring out stitched vertical seams onto the fronts of boxy yet soft silk cotton jackets for the collection and coats that erased model’s waists.

Costa focus for the collection was on details, like inverted darts on lightweight silks, cottons, and velvet devoted in neutral palette. Along with this, he focused on delicate chain stitching and chalk with touches of meadow green.

Some dresses could be seen with horizontal tucks and pleats at midriff, hips, or thighs, these have pressed-down look details purposely. A lemon yellow velvet ankle-skimming shift provided energy to the collection.

Architectural and understated are more likely Costa preferred terms for the collection. 25 models, including Lara Stone – the new face of Calvin Klein, were paired with a polished calf or lizard platform wedge or pump with a colored Lucite heel. Overall, this collection was truly a play on neutral shades!

Well! We can say that he succeeded to bring that Big Change and it seems that older supermodels will rule many 2011 runway collections. It has been heard from the sources that Calvin Klein’s Francisco Costa would like to cast older and less waifish models for his next runway collection. Even he is ready to do “Street Casting” for his runway shows. I think Costa would not leave any chance of doing something new every time!

Chilean-born designer Maria Cornejo is moving on Costa’s steps, as she is less than thrilled with using young models, but says that for a small business, it’s difficult to do otherwise. She said, “It’s very hard, especially if you’re a small company, to do a show, because you’re basically dealing with models that the agencies are sending you, and they’re only sending you the new girls because a lot of girls who are older and more mature refuse to do the shows — they don’t want to be put next to the 16-year-old girl who just arrived.”

If lovely ladies from 90s strutted down the runway then it will be a sign of a new era for fashion in the new decade. Well, if we talk about “waif movement”, Clavin Klein has already kicked it off and is going to continue it further with new innovative mixtures. Hope the “Street Casting” comes soon. Who knows, the next supermodel is from your friend-circle or the person whom you met at the party or somewhere else!!

Collection kicked off with an array of white dresses. Costa created interesting textures like smocking and puckering cotton voile for an A-line shift, or hand-pleating and pin-tucking for organdy dress. Costa played natural off techno, and sheer against opaque. For this he sent out mohair jacquard tank dresses, shaded from black to brown to gray and revealed subtle swaths of skin.

The only departure from show’s earthy palette was a group of asymmetrical shifts and crinkled silk-cotton tank dresses in shades of pale aqua, coral, citron, and jade. The weightless ease of all dresses from this collection has an undeniable appeal; and this was a serene beauty of a collection from Costa.
