It was a Sci-fi show inspired by the gleam of gemstones that led Giorgio Armani to come up with a shimmering collection. Models stepped on the runway in sculpted modernist gowns, glistening with a galaxy of diamond-cut stones, crystals and headgears that set the mood of the show.

Armani Prive Spring 2011 Couture dresses looked like clothes that have came from another planet. Making the collection all the more interesting were metallic saucer hats and crystal-embellished masks, made by Philip Treacy for the collection.

Show opened with a model donning jacket, skirt, and leggings that shimmered around her body like liquid mercury. There was shimmer and shimmer everywhere.

Details like mirror effect that managed to give organza a reflective quality, silk threaded with metal producing a sheen, breastplates of large colored stones, bright, undulating slash of scarlet were head turning. This collection reminds of Giorgio Armani Prive Spring 2010 Haute Couture Collection as well that took onlooker to soothing Lunar Journey.

Top looks of the collection included dress adorned with sweeping collars and bodices, a dress sliced off at the hips that dropped some inches and then picked up again in a fall to the floor, one-shouldered blue gown with cut out at the side revealing a sheath of scaly blue sequins.

Adding to other-worldly atmosphere were spherical skirts, crater skirts unfolded around the hips, color palettes that went from crimson, blue to fluorescent neon-pink, lime and midnight-blue was interesting.

Making the show all the more dazzling were front row celebs that included Sophia Loren, Jodie Foster, and Olivia Wilde.

Roberto Cavalli Spring 2011 Milan Fashion Week Collection celebrated its 40th anniversary with a Garden of Eden styled show with backdrop of a jungle of huge flowers, fronds, and plants. Collection had a 70’s bohemian feel to it with lots of crochet, fringing, beads, sequins, crystal and animal print on muted hues of gray, lilac and nude flaunting on runway.

Show opened with supermodel Natalia Vodianova and Laetitia Casta taking to the runway rocking a hippie look with smokey eye make-up and flat ironed hair. Roberto Cavalli Spring 2011 collection was drenched with fringe details on maxi-dresses, jumpsuits, maxi skirts, leather jackets and his bags.
