Monochromatic looks were prominent on the Michael Kors Fall 2011 runway as everything was “matchy-matchy” like a black bodysuit over a black pleated skirt slit. Even the buttons were dyed in the same color. Not only this, fox shrug, poncho and shoulder-bag were dyed to match leather minis and plunge-front cashmere jumpsuit.

Michael Kors Fall 2011 Collection presented clean charcoal flannel jacket and straight-leg trouser as well as clingy cocktail dress and gown, a nice play of luxe tailoring against languid draping, everything worth noticing.

Dressed in black strapless gown Supermodel Iman won CFDA Fashion Icon Award while Womenswear Designer of the Year went to Marc Jacobs. Alexander McQueen was remembered and his work was recognized with CFDA Special Tribute Award.

The show was kicked off by Noah Mills and Carmen Kass. Carmen was wearing white leather shift dress with a zigzag of zippers down the front. A bleach-splatter fitted dress, silver crimple lame sheath and black “cage” dress with an abbreviated bodice and checkerboard of black patent leather as its back all looped back to Kors’ interest in graphics and architecture. Overall, he was more interested in sleeveless shift dresses, which is also a favorite of his most high-profile client of all, Michelle Obama.

The collection also had a softer side as well, best illustrated by painterly watercolor prints in lilac and seafoam that were used for silhouettes including walking shorts and an origami-folded skirt. Kors created surface interest elsewhere with zipper accents zigzagged around torso of a mint green asymmetric-neckline sheath, or with bold cutouts that exposed a flash of rib on a cocktail dress.
