The world’s most famous vegetarian designer, Stella McCartney has built an empire on fur- and leather-free goods without sacrificing sexiness for sustainability. McCartney’s cheeky and playful look featuring over-the-head T-shirt dresses, one-zip jumpsuits, and oversize, cozy knits have garnered her an A-list of fans. Gwyneth Paltrow, Kate Hudson, Liv Tyler, and Madonna, whom McCartney dressed for her 2000 nuptials to Guy Ritchie are all hip to the label’s eco-con ways. Bolster all that kittenish ease with a booster shot of well-tailored blazers and pantsuits, and meat-eating business types will bite, too.
Having been bought by Gucci Group in 2001, Stella McCartney’s earned profits through vast expansion by 2008, particularly in Asia. Daughter of ex-Beatle Sir Paul McCartney and late photographer and animal rights activist, Linda McCartney, Stella married Alasdhair Willis in 2003 and is mother of three children now.
Stella McCartney went to state school and graduated from London’s Central Saint Martins College of Art & Design in 1995. She was appointed chief designer at French ready-to-wear house, Chloe, in March 1997, replacing famous designer Karl Lagerfeld. Stella has also designed several collections for sports brands like Adidas and Puma, as well as a sell out H&M line. And, now she has launched her debut kids collection for Gap.
