Every year Glamour magazine honors those women who make our world better in entertainment, sports, business, fashion, science and politics. Sponsored by L’Oreal Paris, this glam event called Glamour Women of the Year Awards 2009, was held at NYC’s Carnegie Hall on Monday Nov 9.
The main Award presenters for the award series were Catherine Zeta-Jones and Michael Douglas, Katie Couric, three Beatles wives, former President Bill Clinton, Tyra Banks, model Iman and others. The annual Glamour Women of the Year Awards always honor a perfect group of eclectic women, and this year was no exception. Let’s have a brief look on the winners of Women of The Year Awards.

The 21-year-old Barbados singer Rihanna received the prestigious honor for her songs, unique style, positive role model and her work with Believe Foundation by Model Chanel Iman. She was dressed in hot white gown designed by Stephane Rolland and completed her look with Cartier and H. Stern jewelry.
Female athlete Serena Williams released an autobiography in 2009, opened a secondary school in Kenya, gave grants to college students, and won greatest monetary prize than any female sportsman in the history of world sports. Dressed in red one shoulder gown by Pamela Rolland and silver bangles on her hands, she was presented the award by Tyra Banks.

First Lady of California Maria Shriver steers the California Women’s Conference, which is a growing association for female power. She has overridden her role to encourage and help in roles of women at their muti-role lives. She also produced a documentary on Alzheimer’s disease, which afflicted her father, Sargent Shriver. She wore a beautiful lace dress designed by Californian designer Monique Lhuillier.
Daughter of Paul McCartney, Stella McCartney is one of the most influential fashion designers and animal rights activists. She doesn’t use leather and fur in her designs but makes amazing clothes and footwear. She opted for purple short dress and jacket from her collections.
Comic actress Amy Poehler took her award from hands of Saturday Night Live producer Lorne Michaels. She views her work as a ruse mission to help authorize young women. She dressed in a sparkling gold dress by Stella McCartney, for the awards.

Marissa Mayer, Google’s Vice President of Search Product and User Experience, became the first female engineer at Google Inc. She has increased and developed all of the company’s popular products, from Gmail to Google Earth. She sees her real goal in bringing more women into technology space.
Actor Michael Douglas presented award to Susan Rice, who’s the first female African American U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations. She is leading a campaign at U.N. to oblige a zero-tolerance policy on sexual violence. She always puts women’s rights at the top problems of American agenda at the U.N.
Dr. Jane Aronson, a pediatrician, who created Worldwide Orphans Foundation, received a special award. This foundation has provided a huge and life-alerting support to more than 20,000 orphans around the world.
