The Viktor & Rolf collection, called “Paint it Black”, was designed by considering Victor’s and Rolf’s own lifestyles, and therefore they were less dramatic than the women’s line.
They started with a concept and then applied it in a smaller, lighter way. Think prep-school boys gone slightly 70s. Their debut menswear collection imposes more rules just as in a classic gentleman’s look.
Clunking down Parisian runway in Doc Marten-esque oxfords, nearly identical models flaunted series of whale print denim, wool coats, shawl collar sweaters and pleated slacks in Viktor & Rolf’s Fall 2010 menswear collection. It’s collegiate, flirty and so very Viktor & Rolf. A rational follow up on their “Little Black Dress” capsule collection, Viktor & Rolf, “Paint it Black” is all about texture and somber shades.
This classy and sophisticated collection bridges the gap between generational dressing, i.e. father and son can actually borrow from each other wardrobe.
Viktor & Rolf has made their name in womenswear and perfume world, remember the Eau Mega. The designer duo is famous for their inventive and visionary thinking that takes women’s clothing fashion to a height. And this menswear fall 2010 collection shows that they can be a force in this segment too if ever they decide they want to.
