Third day of Paris Fashion week witnessed great artistic work by top names such as Elie Saab, Jean Paul Gaultier and Valentino. Jean Paul Gaultier yet again amazed everyone with gauchos, sombreros, striped peasant blankets, Spanish shawls, and cigars, that flaunted on runway. Jean Paul Gaultier spring 2010 collection was inspired from an exhibition about Moctezuma, the Aztec emperor and Avatar’s tribal- eco message.
Presentation of theme was larger than life. Gaultier’s models were parading in fringed and silver-studded denim, bra-top feathered dresses and ball gowns woven in manner of peasant baskets. Jean Paul Gaultier successfully turned his spring/summer 2010 haute couture collection into a Mexican fiesta in Paris with songs by the Peruvian soprano, Yma Sumac, and the veteran salsa singer, Luis Marino.
Lots of wacky accessories such as palm tree head dresses and bags were adding to beauty of theme. In all, it was a theme based show, far away from wear-ability point of view. Some flashes of Gaultier’s great tailoring ability was seen in tailcoat over pale pink-beige jet-beaded T-shirt and long skirt, intense top-to-toe fringing, beading and a couple of jumpsuits.
Models were looking like residents of another planet in Moctezuma-style turquoise, restyled as extreme corset and multi-plaited hairstyles along with Amazonian tattoos and tropical jungle motifs.
Highlight of this haute couture show was performance by the French-American singer, Arielle Dombasle in Jean-Paul Gaultier creation from his Haute Couture Spring Summer 2010 fashion collection. It was a very dramatic and appropriate climax of Jean Paul Gaultier Mexican fiesta show.
