Karl Lagerfeld’s spring/summer collection for Chanel, presented a rustic look with a complete romp in the hay at Paris Fashion Week. There were sheer shawls, flowers, a little bit of denim and even some tumbleweed.
The Chanel country coquettes managed their way around with rustic reference in Karl Lagerfeld’s extensive repertoire of craft-y couture skills. From hop-sack to basket weave and cane work to dirndls, aprons, peasant poppy prints, and fantastic wooden double-C clogs, there was everything in this collection representing Prairies.
There were rural notes in raw-edge linen for pretty pinafores and aprons edged with lace; wench-blouses in white lace, with fancy, puffed sleeves worn with short, dirndl skirts. The crocheted dresses were embroidered with meadow-flowers, matching straw and raffia bags.

Taffeta and lace dresses, in black and cream, featured drop-waist, embellished with silk roses. Silver and gold lace, chain-stitched silk, full-skirted frocks, with bounded short sleeves, repeated the wench theme, and were accessorized with trailing tulle veils and stoles.
At the end, Lara Stone, Freja Beha Erichsen, and Lagerfeld’s constant companion, Baptiste Giabiconi, were literally rolling around in the hay together.
Prince and Rihanna were competing for attention in front row. Klf’s “Justified and Ancient” and Primal Scream’s “Get Your Rocks Off” roared from the loudspeakers, interspersed by the arrival of pop singer, Lily Allen, who came up through the floor, with her band and backing singers, to perform her hit single, “Not Fair.”
