The British Fashion Council and British Vogue magazine have collaborated in a new project to support fashion’s future global stars. The BFC Vogue Designer Fashion Fund, launched on November 3rd, will provide one British-based designer with £200,000 and high-level mentoring support to build his or her business on international stage.
This scheme is similar to Vogue/CFDA (Council of Fashion designers of America) awards, pioneered by American Vogue’s Anna Wintour, established in 2003. The fashion designers whose careers were boosted with this scheme are Alexander Wang, Jason Wu, Proenza Schouler, and Rodarte, among others.
Applicants who wish to be considered for new BFC Vogue Designer Fashion Fund, must be UK-based, have an established business, international stockists and a strong media profile too. They must also demonstrate a clear vision of how the price money would contribute to the growth of their name as a global brand.
The judging will be covered and showed in British Vogue’s May 2010 edition. Mr Harold Tillman, British Fashion Council’s chairman will chair the fund and Alexandra Shulman, editor of British Vogue, will chair inaugural judging panel. December 2nd is the closing date for applications. A committee of industry experts and patrons will select a shortlist, and winner and finalists will be announced in April, 2010.
