Global Warming is the hottest and most talked about issue in today’s time. Karl Lagerfeld tackled this issue in Chanel Autumn/Winter 2010 Collection exhibited in Paris Fashion Week. Runway was converted into frozen landscape showing arctic scene with giant chunks of bona fide iceberg, specially transported from Scandinavia.
In middle of the Grand Palais room, that was chilled to 25 degrees Fahrenheit, a 265-ton iceberg was placed. Show opened with models Freja Beha Erichsen, Brad Kroenig, Baptiste Giabiconi and Abbey Lee Kershaw, all wearing furry yeti suits with ice-block heels. Just like Chanel Spring 2010 Collection, this collection was also very unique and stylish.
It was Lagerfeld’s gesture to address Global warming by way of Fashion. Not only Global Warming, but one more issue was tackled and that was Fur. Fashion World is very much concerned and aware about environmental issue and now and then celebs join hands to save animals by shows and charities.
Chanel Fall 2010 Collection was full of fur from boots, skirts, pants to bags, but it was all Faux. Models cat walked and splashed through icy waters, left by melting berg wearing fake fur coats, and fake fur trimmed tweeds with yeti boots and Chanel two tone shoes, covered with plastic galoshes.
Collection included woolly mammoth-look trousers, designer fake fox evening wear mixed with cream lace and tweed and ice crystal jewelry. Highlight of collection was haute evening wear suit and coat combinations, three short angora sweater dresses, fur-fringed embroideries, rock crystal neck pieces and fistfuls of rings.
Finale of Chanel Fall 2010 Ready To Wear Womenswear Collection was breathtaking. Freja, wearing a wedding dress knitted in silk tulle ribbon, forming a tight-fitting sweater in body and sweeping away in flounces in back, looked like a beautiful bride.
In all, it was a cool and chic show with a cause.
